Query fan-out
Definition
The expansion of one user question into many related sub-queries by a search or answer system, which then retrieves against that whole expanded set, reaching well past the literal words typed.

Fan-out means a page can be retrieved for questions it never states verbatim. It can also fail on its exact target phrase, if it does not actually answer the underlying question.
